Santa Anita has a Pick 6 carryover today, and Kristo (even-money on the morning line) figures to be a very popular single. His merits are obvious. His connections are popular. A lot of money is going to go in his direction today. However, we think that the Bob Baffert-trained Hold Everything has just as good a chance of winning this race, and his odds figure to be less dyspeptic.
On our speed figures, Hold Everything’s debut (an 85) was faster than either of Kristo’s races. What is more, Hold Everything debuted in a route, which is no small task, while this will be Kristo’s first attempt around two turns.
The TFUS Pace Projector cannot make a formal pace projection for this race because there are too many question marks. But if it were to make one, it would show Hold Everything with an early advantage over Kristo.
Baffert gets Trainer Ratings of 95 with second-time starters, 94 with this spacing, and 94 with this rider–excellent, all.
Hold Everything removes the blinkers that he wore in his debut, which we generally consider a positive. He also removes Rafael Bejarano (who jumps aboard the likely favorite). We aren’t so crazy about that. But we are taking our chances with Hold Everything today. He is our single.
