After concluding an extensive review, we’ve made an adjustment to better harmonize TimeformUS Speed Figures with the Timeform Global scale. As part of this adjustment, the relationship between North American dirt races and races on Meydan’s new dirt surface has been updated to reflect the latest information available. This is reflected in updated figures for Mubtaahij’s UAE Derby win. Here’s how Mubtaahij will look in TimeformUS Kentucky Derby PPs:

The UAE was NOT a mile and a quarter; it was 1 3/16.

This is something we have studying for nearly a year. We didn’t feel it appropriate to hold back information for the biggest race of the year, and the one with the biggest betting pools. We believe this new rating is an accurate reflection of where he stands in the Derby pecking order, but that is a result of studying many shippers from overseas to North America, not just one.
Consider this, when compared to the Dubai World Cup, this horse ran about 1.5 seconds slower in the UAE Derby. And, we aren’t talking about a particularly strong World Cup, it was won by an eight year old gelding.

the one and a half second disparity could be attributed to the fact he was basically eased before the wire…he was basically shut down the last 100 yards

Well, you do also have to take into serious consideration the fact that Mubtaahij was totally geared down and in a canter from about the 8th pole to the wire.
He certainly could have run much faster.

Much faster? Doubtful. A little faster, sure. I’ve watched the race, while not urged, it wasn’t a canter either.

But the world cup in Dubai at least had a world class horse in California Chrome — maybe it wasn’t his best effort — but you should be able to see how he ran compared to other races he had in the United States to see how his time stacked up — can’t wait to see how he does at Royal Ascot and I guess we will find out how Mubtaahij does in 4 days

Just curious — did you make these adjustments after seeing the result of the Dubai World cup??? and if you could — what was the final time of that race — it was at a mile and a quarter — correct??
Any info would be appreciated because Mubtaahij did show an amazing burst of speed to me
