Belmont Horses in Focus for Friday, September 7th (Opening Day)

Race 3: Mercurian (#5)

Her last effort is not as bad as it appears given the extremely fast pace.

Gets a deceptively positive trainer switch.

DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Emron Ibrahim is 14 for 90 (16 percent, $2.64 ROI) in dirt sprints at NYRA over the past five years.

8-1 on ML

Race 4: Tiz a Kitten (#4)

Finished a good second to a pretty formidable rival, Magic Hatter, in her last turf start.

Ran one of her best turf races going 7 furlongs over this course last September.

Gets a positive rider switch to Jose Ortiz.

4-1 on ML

Race 8: Closer Still (#1)

Got checked and steadied out of position as his rider lost an iron in an incident on the far turn last time.

Put in the fastest final quarter mile of any horse in the Coronation Cup despite losing all of her momentum on the turn.

Has shown the ability to compete at this level in the past.

12-1 on ML
