Saratoga Horses in Focus for Monday, August 20th

Race 3: Big Muddy (#2)

Was totally outrun early in his debut, but found his best stride late, sprinting through the lane before galloping out strongly.

Is bred to handle longer distances, as a son of Medaglia d’Oro out of a stamina-laden female family.

DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Todd Pletcher is 11 for 20 (55 percent, $5.64 ROI) in 9-furlong dirt maiden races at Saratoga.

5-2 on ML

Race 5: Ranger in Paradise (#2)

Ran well within the context of his last race, as he made a wide late run into a race dominated on the front end.

Should receive some pace to close into here with speeds Too Fast to Pass, Rectify, and Missle Bomb in the mix.

Gets a positive trainer change to Bruce Levine, who does good work off the claim in dirt sprints.

6-1 on ML

Race 8: Papa Shot (#4)

Realm, who beat him two back, returned to upset the Alydar Stakes against tougher company.

Was badly compromised by a speed-favoring racetrack last time out.

It’s a positive sign that Linda Rice steps him up into stakes company off that pair of efforts

12-1 on ML
