This is a fascinating race for a late-season listed turf stakes. While there are some intriguing up-and-comers in this race, I believe they’ll all be hard-pressed to defeat the logical MY IMPRESSION (#1).
If you throw out her uncharacteristically poor performance in the Lake Placid when she slipped on the turf course and was basically eased late, she hasn’t run a bad race this year. That 113 speed figure that she earned for her win in the Christiana back in July proved to be a true sign of things to come as she backed that up with a visually impressive score in the Commonwealth Oaks.
Last time, I thought My Impression ran quite well after finding herself in an uncharacteristic position so close to the pace. She figures to work out a good trip with cover from the rail under Jose Ortiz, and I think she is very much a horse to lean on in multi-race sequences.
The race is pretty wide-open behind her. Sassy Little Lila (#2) figures to take plenty of action at the windows, but she’s set slow paces in her last two wins and should be involved in a much more competitive pace today. Grey Stark (#3) has continued to step forward for Chad Brown and should be flying late if they go too fast up front. Danilovna (#6) earned a competitive speed figure at Santa Anita last time and should be taken seriously. Gioia Stella (#10) was facing lesser company last time, but she finished powerfully and appears ready for this step up in class. Finally, Chad Brown’s Noble Beauty (#11) was no match for My Impression two back, but could be another late threat if pace develops.
