Bishop’s Pond (#1) got an absolutely perfect trip last time when sneaking through inside after saving ground, but must be used again for the ever-dangerous Jason Servis. Also likely to attract support are Chad Brown’s pair of Verbouwen (#4) and Grey Stark (#5). Both are talented fillies that are yet unproven at this distance. I slightly prefer Grey Stark, who has proven her quality against graded-stakes-level competition, but both have to be used. I could even include Daring Duchess (#7) off the trainer switch to Mike Maker, though she has to take a step forward off her lackluster recent form.
While I’m not convinced that she’s going to get the right pace setup in a race that lacks any confirmed frontrunners, I have to take a shot with EVIDENTLY (#6) off her most recent effort.
She was facing a decent field last time, but a mile and a sixteenth is on the short side for her and the race flow did not work in her favor. The early tempo was moderate and they really sprinted home. However, Evidently was caught in behind horses and could never get fully clear in the stretch. She still was making up ground late, but she may have gotten closer had she been steered outside. Now she stretches out to a more appropriate distance while making just her second start on Lasix. When this mare is right, she has a strong late kick.
