Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.
12-1 on ML:
Didn’t run all that badly in her debut. Has trained forwardly since. Should enjoy the extra ground. Overmatched badly on the win end once again, she has a chance to make a late run into the lower part of the trifecta at a fat price.
30-1 on ML:
This is really pushing it, but this gelding has a hint of turf breeding and ran reasonably well on synthetic early in his career. If he can break alertly from this awful post, he has a chance to clear off early and get brave enough to hit the bottom of the super at monstrous odds.
9-2 on ML:
Handled this distance and then some in his youth. Sharp now. Trainer trying again. Figures right in the middle of this at a decent price.
6-1 on ML:
Draws well to work out an outside pressing trip, and, leaving Ultra Sharp to one side, he can run with any of these.
10-1 on ML:
Draws well, has been training beautifully, and has been improving of late. She had the race flow in her favor last time. If she gets some pace again, she is a threat in here at a price.
