The most talented filly in this finale may be Lil Renegade (#11), but she has had her chances to win in spots like this and has just failed to find the winner’s circle. She’ll be on our tickets, but we prefer a couple of others.
Baronet (#12) ran well enough in her first start off the claim by Gary Sciacca and picks up John Velazquez for today’s race, but she does have to overcome a wide post position. Naughty Grace (#9) has hit the board in her last two starts at this level, but like Lil Renegade, she’s had plenty of chances. First-time starter Prime Surprise (#2) is certainly not impossible, out of a dam that is a half-sister to $500,000-earner Drive by Success.
The speedy group of Bustin Aces (#13) and, to a lesser extent, She is My Hero and Double Mane should ensure a pace that is at least fair. We believe that could set things up for a long shot to come running late.
That horse is FOR LATER (#5), whom we liked on the turnback last time when she lost all chance after blowing the start, spotting the field over five lengths. She actually did quite well to get up for fifth and can be a late threat if any pace materializes. We feel that this filly is better suited to sprinting. She actually did not finish that far behind a few of today’s rivals when they had previously met in January, and we believe she’s improved since then.
