The runner that they’re all going to be chasing is Uncharted Course (#2), who will attempt to stretch out to seven furlongs following a couple of vastly improved efforts in his last two starts, both of which earned speed figures of 115. The Pace Projector is predicting a situation that favors horses on or near the lead, but he still must prove that he can sustain his speed for the full distance while receiving early pressure.
We like turn backs, and More Zen Tea (#4) and Beyond the Green (#7) are both intriguing as they try this shorter seven furlong distance. However, they may not get the pace setup that they require to be most effective.
Street Lord (#1) is mildly interesting as he stretches out to a more appropriate distance in his second start off the layoff. He’s also dropping into a more realistic spot after trying much tougher open optional claiming company last time. It’s encouraging to see Jose Ortiz take the mount, and he shouldn’t be placed that far off the early leaders.
Our top pick is TRUE BET (#5).
This Michael Dilger trainee lost all chance at the start last time out on March 5, when he stumbled and clipped heels in the early going, losing many lengths of position. The inner track surface was favoring horses with speed and the rail that day, which made it especially difficult for True Bet to make an impact thereafter. He had previously been running some of the fastest speed figures in the field, and he possesses the speed to be right up on the early pace, applying pressure to Uncharted Course.
