Aqueduct Sunday Highlight Horse: See Legendary Attempt to Fend Off Hostile Takeover in Dangers Hour

It’s great to see old-timer Lubash (#4) coming back for his nine-year-old season. This gelding has been so consistent over the years, but he sometimes needs a race off these long layoffs, and he’s never done his best work over Aqueduct’s turf course. We instead prefer the horses shipping up from Florida.

Takeover Target (#8) is the logical choice off his decent fourth-place finish in the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. Considering that he never got any cover, it was a fine effort, but we still wish he had shown a bit more punch in the stretch. To his credit, he has run well over rain-softened turf courses, in both his career debut and in the Hill Prince, so the conditions do not figure to faze him.

We will instead take a different horse out of that race.

LEGENDARY (#1) was immediately taken to the back of the pack and never put in a position to win while racing behind a slow pace (color-coded in blue). This gelding has routinely faced better fields and, though he’s been inconsistent at times, could easily win this race with his top performance. If he can use this rail post to get into a forward stalking position, he may work out the perfect trip today.
We don’t want to totally count out the speedy Macagone (#5), who has run well fresh and could take these an awfully long way up front.
