Bear Clause (#4) is a deserving favorite off his 83 speed figure performance last time out, in which he finished a good second at this level. He figures to show speed again under Jackie Davis and is a serious threat to wire the field.
Field Sense (#3) will also attract some support, off the strength of his most recent start, in which he earned a 90 speed figure. Our race ratings do indicate that he’s been facing tougher competition than what he meets here, but we still don’t completely trust him. He’s had his chances to break out of the maiden ranks, and this barn is unproven over the NYRA circuit.
First-time starter Game of Stones (#2) goes out for Bruce Levine, who gets a solid 72 trainer rating with first-time starters. He’s a half-brother to a couple of decent New York-bred sprinters.
We’ll use all of these runners in some capacity, but we believe that second-time starter TAKE ME AWAY (#5) will offer the best value.
This three-year-old actually broke very well in his debut, but appeared to shy away from kickback on the backstretch and ended up getting shuffled all the way to the back of the pack around the far turn. Once Take Me Away got clear in the stretch, he came with a good late run and actually galloped out past the entire field soon after the wire. We think we haven’t seen the best of this one yet, and he figures to be placed much closer to the pace today.
