On The Contrary: Santa Anita’s Most Playable Longshots on Saturday

DontLetTheGamePassYouByfortfus

>>Saturday April 2nd | Go To TFUS PPs for today’s races at Santa Anita

Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Race 1:

All the Marbles:

10-1 on ML:

First-time starter has one of the worst turf-sprint Breeding Ratings we have ever seen, and his trainer is lousy with first-time starters. However, we expect him to handle grass, and this course plays long. Plus he has been training as if he is not completely without ability. Jones babies his horses in training. Need price here. Maybe double the ML.

Jimmy Shoes:

12-1 on ML:

Expecting more than we saw in his debut. Returned to train well and moves to grass. Would not exclude from exotics at a price.

Race 2:

Street Goddess:

8-1 on ML:

We feel she is better than she looks on paper. But she is up against it from a pace standpoint. Would use her to make a late run into the trifecta at a price.

Race 4:

Street Maven:

12-1 on ML:

Can make late run and get on the board at a price if the pace is there. Does not figure all that far off of these and has trained decently for his 2nd race off the layoff.

Race 6:

Captain Akers:

15-1 on ML:

Projects close to the early leader and has the ability to stick around for exotics at a price.

Race 7:

Mr. Sexy:

20-1 on ML:

Giant jump in class, but he projects to have  a clear early lead in a race favoring speed, and his best effort, combined with a soft trip, could land him on the board at a huge number.

Race 9:

Jason X L:

6-1 on ML:

First-time starter seems to have a  touch of ability, and Eurton using Bejarano suggests that they mean business here.

Race 11 (Arabian Race):

F Sixteen:

6-1 on ML:

We have no PPs for this Arabian race, but we have seen F Sixteen run, and, while he can’t touch Paddy’s Day if that one fires, he does look pretty solid to land in the trifecta, and the post will help his price.
