On The Contrary: Santa Anita’s Most Playable Longshots on Sunday

>>Sunday March 27th| Go To TFUS PPs for today’s races at Santa Anita

Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Race 1:

Rock ’n On Home:

9-2 on ML:

Pace Projector shows him on a clear early lead. Last time, he was overpowered early by a frontrunner who ran away and hid. Returned to train pretty well.

Race 3:

Redneck Crazy:

10-1 on ML:

Was light on training going into his last race, and then got into a  pretty nasty duel. Lacks talent, but we think he is a little better than shown. Plus he can stalk. Chance to hit trifecta at a big price.

Race 7:

8-1 on ML:

Throw out that last one and he fits beautifully with these at a price. Has the early speed to gain position and get off the inside in this race down the hill (where inside moves rarely work).  Should be in the trifecta if he fires today.

Race 8:

Latina Mo:

30-1 on ML:

This one is really a reach. This filly showed nothing in her only race, which came in a grass sprint. But she has trained well on dirt once or twice, and given this breeding, we want to see her show nothing on dirt before consigning her to the maiden claiming ranks. Need price here, however. A lot of it. Something close to 50-1.

Race 9:

8-1 on ML:

Can hang around and hit the trifecta if clearing off early as she should.

Race 10:

Vow to Be Tops:

9-2 on ML:

Has a series of strong speed figures. Gets back on the hill.  We don’t like the blinkers going on, but his best effort would probably land him in the exacta at a minimum.
