Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.
4-1 on ML:
The 4-5 favorite on the ML has a shaky work pattern off the suspicious class drop. Funny Gal lacks her talent but appears very solid and draws perfectly. Would seem to have big shot to finish in exacta here.
I B Mike:
6-1 on ML:
Ran a strong race (91) first off the claim and returned to train pretty well. He seems overmatched for the win, but he has enough speed to benefit from the projected soft pace and maybe stick around for the trifecta at a price.
My Year Is a Day:
5-1 on ML:
Effective grass sprinter in France. Troubled in key part of the race in a Del Mar grass sprint. Has the fastest last-out speed figure in the field and looks like a threat in here at a bit of a price for an ace trainer.
Big Guy Benny:
12-1 on ML:
Took money in debut. Showed nothing. Came back to train well for underrated trainer. Expecting better performance today.
