On The Contrary: Santa Anita’s Most Playable Longshots on Thursday

>>Thursday March 10th| Go To TFUS PPs for today’s races at Santa Anita

Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Race 1:

Rare Integrity:

8-1 on ML:

Pace Projector shows her up close early. She has the best speed figures in the field and decent breeding for grass and two turns. Goes 3rd off the layoff for an underrated trainer who knows Square Eddie and Momentum as well as anybody.

Race 4:

6-1 on ML:

This race has been taken off the grass. We prefer this filly on dirt. She ran OK around two turns last year. She has enough early speed to get a contending position. She has strong speed figures and has trained well enough. In light with rider who can ride. Has held together since leaving D’Amato barn.

Race 6:

15-1 on ML:

Handled dirt and distance just fine in South America. Training very well for this. Has a Del Mar grass figure that can play in here if transferred to dirt. We dislike blinkers-on on principle but maybe they will trick this horse into not walking out of the starting gate.
