On The Contrary: Santa Anita’s Most Playable Longshots on Monday

>>Monday February 15th | Go To TFUS PPs for today’s races at Santa Anita

Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Race 1:

Lirica Heat

10-1 on ML:

Pace Projector has her in good position early. Stretches back out off two hill tries. Training just fine. Lacks talent but useful underneath in exotics at a price.

Race 2:

Lady’s Discretion:

12-1 on ML:

Firster has solid pedigree rating, trainer who is sneaky decent with firsters, and workouts that suggest there could be a little bit of horse here at a price.

Race 3:

It’s The Ice:

7-2 on ML:

Big performance (102 figure) followed by big workout. Sharp trainer gets 98 rating second off the layoff.

Race 8:

Belle Et Bete:

12-1 on ML:

Back on hill, off steady, solid works, for a trainer we love. Filly is somewhat limited but is one we would use underneath at a big price.

Race 9:

Silver Chrome:

12-1 on ML:

Last race may well be better than it looks on paper. That was a rather trying trip. Gelding has a low ceiling, we suspect, but can establish decent position early and maybe hold on and hit superfecta at a big price.
