Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Crazy longshot has few merits, but given her massive price, we will give her pleasing pattern of speed figures a chance to produce a big jump and get her into the super.
Should be serious price. Pace projector has her on early lead in race projected to favor speed. Has some back figures and goes 3rd off layoff for trainer who does not crank fresh horses. Chance to find board if breaking well from lousy post.
Bishops of Compton:

Ran sort of inefficiently in early part and then leveled off in an odd performance. Rider switch here is worth noting. Filly can possibly jump up third out.
Tough It Out:
6-1 on ML:
Forward-moving gelding draws good post for strong barn and may be able to produce late run into trifecta.

Favorites very strong in here. Hoping this colt (who has been training very well) can take a step back toward the level he showed on grass at Del Mar. If so, chance to take home minor award.
15-1 on ML:
Pace Projector shows this race setting up for a closer. This gelding is not all that far off these on his best, and this distance gives closers with bad posts time to take back off the pace and save some ground.

Cheating here because this firster will take money for sure. Just want to mention that she has been training like a racehorse, and Bejarano does not choose firster mounts in a casual manner
