Building Permit (#8) is the horse to beat as she seeks her third win in a row while stepping up against open company for the first time. Her recent TimeformUS Speed Figures, ranging from 96 up to a 109 last time, are clearly some of the highest numbers in the race. She’s compiled an impressive worktab for this return to the races and appears ready to deliver another strong performance.
However, the one knock we have against her is that she’s developed a more aggressive running style in recent starts and there is quite a bit of other speed signed on in this race. The Pace Projector is predicting a fast pace, which may help set things up for a closer.
Some may want to consider Rachel’s Temper (#10), who stretched out successfully last time while earning a competitive 105 speed figure. Yet she must work out a trip from a disadvantageous outside post position after receiving perfect inside trips in her last two starts.
Our top pick is the late-running Jcs AMERICAN DREAM (#1).
Jcs American Dream gets a huge trainer upgrade from 33-rated Billy Turner to Michelle Nevin, who gets a 93 rating first off the claim.
This daughter of Catienus loves two turns and has routinely done her best running over the inner track surface, compiling a record of 10-3-2-3 here while she’s just 18-0-2-2 at every other venue. She routinely seems to step up her game during the winter months, and she served notice that she was heading in the right direction again this season with an improved performance in December.
