On The Contrary: Santa Anita’s Most Playable Longshots on Friday

DontLetTheGamePassYouByfortfus

>>Friday January 29th | Go To TFUS PPs for today’s races at Santa Anita

Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Race 3:

Inexcess Time:

8-1 on ML:

Pretty solid 95 speed figure last time despite wide trip. Has been competitive at this class level. Conceding pace advantage to chalk. Probably best used underneath in trifectas.

Race 4:

Exfanofsixties:

8-1 on ML:

Pace Projector shows her engaged for early lead on the cutback—a useful Pace Projector angle. Strong speed figures.  Trained well since last race. Very sharp trainer whom one should always keep an eye on.

Race 5:

Nazareth:

8-1 on ML:

Pace Projector shows her just off pace projected to favor speed. Handles turf just fine. Last race is better than it looks on paper. Difficult trip from pace standpoint. Warning:
Private clocker not impressed with recent workout. We are willing to swallow this sort of thing, but we expect (and require) more price to do so.

We’ve probably already done too much on a card we despise. So we are stopping here. Tomorrow will be much more enjoyable.
