Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.
10-1 on ML:
Took some money before her debut. Then did little in the race. Came back to train well. Keeps rider. Draws good post. There is a decent chance we will see better out of her today, though there is some strength on the outside of the gate, and even big improvement could leave the bottom of exotics as her ceiling.
6-1 on ML:
Short-sprint specialist has strong speed figures and enough speed to establish a contending position early. Hard to see her winning, but she is one we would certainly use in trifectas. This rider, by the way, can ride. (That comment alone just about guarantees an awful trip.)
12-1 on ML:
The crowd hates playing the MC-to-MSW class jump. This filly handles the hill and has improving speed figures. Training very well. (And we love her name.)
8-1 on ML:
Pace Projector has him on clear early lead. Has fired off layoffs. Training well enough. Back figures are strong.
8-1 on ML:
May be bit shy on talent but is one we would certainly use in exotics, since she is training as if she is sitting on her best.
