Aqueduct Friday Highlight Horse: Secured Position seeks redemption on six days’ rest

We’re taking a stand against morning line favorite Little Popsie, who owns the highest last-out speed figure, but earned that number while racing over a gold rail on December 19. The Pace Projector is predicting a fast pace and we believe that opens things up for some late runners.

Beyond the Green (#2) figures to benefit from the likely pace scenario. He may ultimately want to go farther than this, but he’s compiled a solid worktab for his return. Of the likely pace players, the one we’re most interested in is Super Nicky (#1). He was compromised by racing on the dead rail of the December 26 card last time and should do better here, but must survive a potential speed duel with Little Popsie and others.

Our top selection is SECURED POSITION (#9).

Manny Franco is a promising young jockey, but he made a series of costly errors aboard Secured Position last time. That lapse in judgment, combined with some bad racing luck, denied Secured Position the chance to put in a true effort, so it’s no surprise that he shows up seeking redemption just six days later with a new rider. He’s run better than it appears in all three of his starts this season and should be an overlay. His outside post position should work to his advantage, since he does have the tactical speed to be placed within striking distance of the leaders if a fast pace doesn’t materialize.
