On The Contrary: Santa Anita’s Most Playable Longshots on Friday

>>Friday January 8th | Go To TFUS PPs for today’s races at Santa Anita

Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Race 2:

Swag Money:

12-1 on ML:

Earned semi-competitive speed figure at Del Mar despite wide trip. Goes for trainer who does not rush his horses. Training extremely well for her 3rd start and should go better today. Added distance is a plus. We expect a strong effort today but have doubts about this ML.

Race 4:

Pegasus Princess:

6-1 on ML:

Received a fairly difficult trip in her debut. Hollendorfer is strong second out (91 rating). Trained well enough since raced. The heavy favorite on the ML (Tryst) has been training very well but goes for a trainer who is mediocre with firsters.

Race 5:

Unusual Storm:

8-1 on ML:

Pressed a solid pace last time. Has back figures that fit well enough in a race that looks pretty open.

Race 6:

Sky Forever:

6-1 on ML:

Pace Projector shows her on early lead in race favoring speed. Handles dirt OK. Has trained well enough. Switches back to Bejarano.
