Aqueduct Thursday Highlight Horse: In race 3, Lady Luciano is heading in the right direction

Take Issue (#5) is the obvious trip handicapper’s horse off her last race, in which Kendrick Carmouche wisely tried to save ground on the turn, but ended up getting stuck down on the rail, buried behind a wall of runners in the stretch. She most likely would have finished ahead of today’s rival Shotgun Love (#1) with a clear run that day and has to be considered the horse to beat in this spot.

While there are at least three runners that prefer to be forwardly placed early, the Pace Projector is still predicting a situation that favors horses on or near the lead. One of those runners, Uncle Southern (#4), is worthy of consideration if she’s going off at anything near her morning line odds. She’s been facing tougher company since the claim by Gary Contessa and should appreciate the class relief she’s getting here.

However, the horse that we’re most interested in is LADY LUCIANO (#3).

This mare is moving back up in class after returning to form last time. She has subtly been improving with each start since getting back to dirt last fall and acquitted herself well against an in-form Irish Whisper last time. The Race Rating of that race in comparison to today’s affair suggests that this isn’t really the step up in class that one might assume. Lady Luciano is a capable sprinter when she’s right, and she may get overlooked in the wagering once again.
