On The Contrary: Santa Anita’s Most Playable Longshots on Sunday

DontLetTheGamePassYouByfortfus

>>Sunday January 3rd | Go To TFUS PPs for today’s races at Santa Anita

Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.

Race 4:

Vow to Be Tops:

12-1 on ML:

Pace Projector has him on early lead. Has the best last-out speed figure in the field. Has been training regularly and well enough off the layoff. Switches to strong, underrated rider.

Race 5:

Rockin Bayou:

6-1 on ML:

Competitive speed figure in last start despite awkward break. Improved speed figure from first start to second. Training well enough off short break for Mullins.

Race 7:

Heavens Stairway:

15-1 on ML:

Pace Projector shows her stalking the pace early. Wide trip in G3 last time. Two back was a powerful effort the repetition of which, combined with a good trip, could land her in the trifecta here at a big price. Underrated trainer uses longshot rider.

Race 9:

Tiz Dynamic:

15-1 on ML:

Ran big race despite awful trip in most recent start. Will be coming from off what is projected to be a fast pace. Training very well for underrated trainer since his last race.
