Empire Dreams (#1) figures to appreciate this stretch-out in distance after finding seven furlongs to be slightly too short last time. While the Pace Projector is not predicting a fast pace, the speedy Ostrolenka figures to carve out an honest early tempo. Empire Dreams consistently performs well in New York-bred company and must be used strongly in any multi-race wagers.
The popular Saratoga Snacks (#5) is easy to root for, but he’s had things go his way in his two victories this year and may be hard-pressed to put away Ostrolenka and still hold off the closers today.
Considering that both of these runners will be short prices, we want to take a small shot against them with GOOD LUCK GUS (#6).
This three-year-old progressed nicely throughout the summer and was deserving of a shot in the Empire Classic last time. However, a bad stumble at the start took him out of his game and he could never make an impact thereafter. Good Luck Gus is a grinding type that shouldn’t be placed that far off the pace, as was the case in his victories in the Damon Runyon and Albany. He relishes two turns and may give the favorites a scare if he continues his forward development.
Win bet on GOOD LUCK GUS (#6).
