Note: The goal of “On The Contrary” is to point out several horses every day who may be overlooked in the wagering and who can possibly add value to trifectas and superfectas (in high holes and low) and to Pick 3s, Pick 4s, etc. We will not be making “selections” per se in “On the Contrary.” Rather, we’ll encourage readers to give extra consideration to certain horses who may seem a little overmatched at first glance–but who are in fact the type of horses we often build our bets around. >>See related interview on betting longshots.
4-1 on ML:
Mare draws well, is down in class, has strong speed figures, and has been training as if she is sitting on her best race for Hector Palma, who has had a nice year.
12-1 on ML:
Ran a big race (speed figure of 102) at Del Mar, and has been working his way back to it over his last three starts. Rider will need to hustle him early to stay in touch early on the cutback, but at least Pedroza enjoys riding inside and going through holes.
12-1 on ML:
Made short work of a bottom-level allowance field and has held her form quite well since the trainer change. Has a pleasing stalking style and Bejarano-off will help the price.

8-1 on ML:
Training very well for super-sharp trainer. Pace Projector shows her stalking in the clear. Ran competitive speed figure of 110 in last start. Tyler Baze sticks.
