The horse to beat is Bellamy Way (#2), who has run a string of speed figures ranging from the high-90s to low-100s. However, this horse has now lost four straight races despite appearing well-positioned to win on more than a few of those occasions. We’re not totally convinced that the stretch-out to two turns helps him and are willing to take a shot against this favorite.
Repent Twice (#10) is one to consider since he’s coming off a career-best performance, which also happened to be his first start with blinkers. The Pace Projector is predicting a fast pace, which figures to help this late runner.
While we would certainly use the two aforementioned runners, our top selection is 15/1 shot LEHIGH FIVE (#3).
We realize that Lehigh Five has run slower than the top contenders, but we nevertheless see some reasons to believe that he could be set for a breakout performance this afternoon. His wet track return two back was better than it looks, since he came with a strong late run through the stretch and actually galloped out past the winner. Then last time, we’re not sure exactly what Junior Alvarado was thinking, but he clearly stopped riding Lehigh Five on the turn and basically didn’t give him a chance to make an impact. This son of Birdstone has worked well since that race and is certainly bred to excel around two turns. He’s interesting at a square price.
