A class dropper like White Bluff (#6) is the kind of runner we’d usually gravitate towards in this type of race. White Bluff is receiving some major class relief and his trainer, Tony Dutrow, gets a 100 trainer rating with maiden special weight to maiden claiming dropdowns. This horse has some appeal, but for us, he’s strictly a backup behind our top pick.
As far as we’re concerned, this race is all about the recently claimed CONGRATS KID (#3).
He is moving from 36-rated trainer Emrom Ibrahim to the 83-rated Linda Rice, who gets a solid 85 rating with runners racing first off the claim. This horse is also getting a very positive rider switch to Cornelio Velasquez, which is especially significant given the trip that he received last time. For whatever reason, Congrats Kid’s rider was intent on sending him through a tight hole on the rail around the far turn last time and ended up having to steady back to last place. Congrats Kid rerallied belatedly to get up for fourth, but the trouble around the far turn had cost him any chance.
Congrats Kid had previously been overmatched in some particularly deep maiden special weight races. We’re sure we haven’t seen the best of this horse yet, and we trust Linda Rice to bring it out of him.
Win bet on CONGRATS KID (#3).
Trifecta using CONGRATS KID (#3) on top with White Bluff (#6) underneath in the second or third slots.
