With speed coming from Augie’s Coming, The Crocheron Kid, and potentially even Baldonnel, the pace should at least be fair in this spot.
Morning line favorite Union River (#1) has been running competitively at this level and is a logical contender for the top prize once again. However, his recent speed figures, a pair of 88s, don’t exactly give him an edge over the two runners to his outside. While we’re not against him, we’re more interested in a new face at a slightly better price.
Our top pick is HUNTER’S STRIKE (#2).
This horse has been keeping marginally tougher company out of town. He’s never raced beyond seven furlongs, but we love the stretch-out in distance for this son of Smart Strike. His dam was a confirmed dirt router, and this horse has a grinding running style that should lend itself well to longer races. If he can transfer his recent speed figures going shorter distances to this two-turn affair, he’s faster than Union River.
