Most handicappers will likely home in on Main Track Only entrant Five On a Dime (#2), who comes off a respectable effort on October 4. Breaking from the rail, she veered in at the break that day, almost leaving the course before rejoining the field. She made a nice middle move into the race around the far turn, but flattened out in the late stages. She does find herself in an easier spot with this drop into maiden claiming company, but she will likely have to deal with a wet track. It’s also probably not a positive sign that she was a vet scratch a couple of weeks ago.
While we’re not way against this horse, we do want to take a small shot on second-time starter DREAMS TO REALITY (#11).
She obviously needs to improve on the 66 speed figure she earned in her debut, but she was trying to rally into a slow pace that day. She finished up with interest through the stretch and galloped out strongly past the wire. Michael Dilger gets a 94 trainer rating with his second-time starters, up from a 70 for debut runners, so this one figures to take a step forward. We like the confidence he shows by bumping her up in class, and the extra distance should only help this daughter of Lookin at Lucky.
WIN: DREAMS TO REALITY (#11)
EXACTA BOX: DREAMS TO REALITY (#11) and Five On a Dime (#2)
