>Santa Anita/ January 31 / Go to Racecard

Race 1:

Last-minute replacement for Justin Finch, who will be back tomorrow. So my expectations are low, but my enthusiasm is high for what is a fine Saturday card. #7 It’s Aine ran a TFUS Speed Figure of 81 at Los Alamitos. Then threw in a bad race at SA. Should take this if returning to form today.

Selections: 7-4-2-3

Race 2:

#8 Better Luck should be able to make the early lead today. He has solid figures in this context, plus a top trainer. #4 Alston brings back memories for us baseball fanatics and is still lightly raced. Can jump to a new top here.

Selections: 8-4-3-1

Race 3:

#5 Milhaud has good breeding for a debut effort and a trainer who has been winning with a few first-time starters of late. #7 Commute could be a big price and has trained well for his debut.

Selections: 5-7-3-2

Race 4:

#3 Awe’ Some Kitten is a longshot on the morning line, has some decent back races, and goes 2nd off the layoff today. #6 Hotaling Heart will be near the early lead according to our Pace Projector. #4 Bow Tie Belle is an obvious favorite who has something of a red flag because she is leaving the lethal Hollendorfer barn.

Selections: 3-6-1-4

Race 5:

#7 Lady of the Nile is joining the lethal Hollendorfer barn and working very well off the layoff. Big price on the morning line. #12 Our Little Hen has strong speed figures on this downhill turf course.

Selections: 7-12-10-6

Race 6:

#1 Distinctiv Passion will have the early lead according to Pace Projector, which projects the race to be speed-favoring. #5 Wild Dude has trained well off the layoff.

Selections: 1-5-2-4

Race 7:

Highlight Horse: Grade 2 Arcadia at a mile on grass. We have been a fan of #4 Kaigun for some time. Kept banging away without a break last year, running speed figures in the 110 range. Got a short break going into this race. Is dropping in class according to our Race Ratings. Trainer gets 90 rating when attempting a repeat victory. Gelding has been training superbly according to private clockers. Nakatani can ride the SoCal grass as well as anybody can.

Selections: 4-8-2-7

Race 8:

#6 Majestic Presence had a wide trip in the Starlet. Ran speed figure of 102. May appreciate distance reduction. Training very well for Hollendorfer. #2 Maybellene looks like strictly the horse to beat off a game effort in the Starlet.

Selections: 6-2-9-4

Race 9:

#9 Just Kidding just ran a grass 85 while not getting an easy trip. Lightly raced and training like a colt on the improve. #7 Rockin Robin finished ahead of the top choice last time and figures tough again.

Selections:9-7-2-1
