#6 Sir Barclay broke slow at Los Al, quickly got into contention, and recorded a speed figure of 86. Repeat could do the trick in this weak field. #4 Twenty Percent could be dangerous on the lead.
#6 Tough Sunday ran an 80 despite a tough trip and figures to be a prohibitive favorite in here. #2 Howdy is our favorite candidate to pull the upset. Stalked fast fractions on turf and recorded speed figure of 82. Pace Projector has him in second place early.
#4 She’s Discreet will be on a clear early lead, according to Pace Projector. That could go a long way in this field. #1 Afleet Echo has strong speed figures and figures tough on the cutback.
#2 Go West Marie enters off three figures in the 100s, which is enough to make us overlook her flaws (of which there are plenty) and give her a shot at a big price on the ML. #8 Kool Kat looks like the horse to beat. Cassidy gets an 89 rating with this rider.
#3 Simon Kenton ran a speed figure of 97 despite losing an ungodly amount of ground racing wide. Can play with these at a bit of a price if he can string two together. #5 Nowalking has trained beautifully and goes for a sharp trainer who gets an overall rating of 90.
#3 No Jet Lag has big back figures and has been training well off the break. #2 Fighting On should be a price on the class jump and fits with these.
#8 Tribal Gal will be on the early lead, according to Pace Projector. Ran a 101 in her last start on dirt. #1 Global Hottie figures for a nice stalking trip for Baffert.
#1 Sweet Swap drew a bad post but holds a class edge and has strong speed figures, strong workouts, and a smart rider who can ride this tricky course. #9 Bettys Bambino steps up off of two strong efforts down this hill.
Highlight Horse: #2 Pleasure Point is 12-1 on the morning line as he makes his second start. Today he steps up in class from maiden claiming 30 to maiden claiming 50. He also steps up by 7 points according to our Race Ratings, and the crowd tends to shun maidens on the class rise. In his debut, at Los Alamitos, he struggled with the first turn (it is rather tight) and lost a ton of ground. He started advancing on the backstretch. Then he lost a lot of ground on the second turn.
He ended up finishing third and earning a semi-decent speed figure of 68 despite the nasty trip. He can get involved in this thing at a price from this good post.
