Del Mar’s Saturday Highlight Horse: Bobbi Grace tabbed early by Timeform’s global team

>Del Mar / November 29 / Race 6 /  3:01 PST

The Grade 3 Jimmy Durante is for two-year-old fillies at a mile on the grass. The Graham Motion filly Rainha Da Bateria is the favorite on the morning line and seems quite likely to be the favorite when the race is run. She already has a Grade 3 win to her credit, and she enters off a powerful TimeformUS Speed Figure of 92, which she ran in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. However, we believe that Bobbi Grace has a good chance to knock her off today.

Bobbi Grace will be making the fourth start of her career today. Her first two starts, in Ireland, resulted in speed figures of 71 and 81 and the positive comment from our Timeform global colleagues that she is “sure to win more races.” Then she was shipped to the United States, where she entered the high-powered Tom Proctor barn.

In her US debut, Bobbi Grace received a difficult trip in a big field, losing a lot of ground racing wide while the winner got through on the inside. Still, Bobbi Grace recorded a lifetime top speed figure of 85, which continues her pattern of improvement.

Bobbi Grace will be making her second route attempt today, a category in which Proctor gets a rating of 86. According to the Pace Projector, this race will have a fast pace, which figures to benefit both Rainha Da Bateria and Bobbi Grace. But note that the Pace Projector, while showing both fillies well off the early pace, has Bobbi Grace well ahead of Rainha Da Bateria at the opening half-mile. This could give Bobbi Grace a tactical advantage over her main rival. Bobbi Grace is our Highlight Horse at Del Mar today.
