Sunday April 27 – Aqueduct Top Play
Race 7 Scheduled Local Post Time – 4:14 pm
It’s closing day for Aqueduct’s spring meeting on the main track, and race 7, for NY-bred maiden fillies, may prove to be one to watch closely for future reference. Not only are there experienced runners in the field who have flashed some potential, but there are two interesting newcomers scheduled to debut in this spot.
Just to touch upon the interesting first-time starters: #7 Sister Margaret is the first foal from Dance Gal Dance, a multiple stakes-winning sprinter around here a few years ago, who went 6-for-9 in her career and was 2nd in all three losses. #8 Saythreehailmary’s is a half-sister to NY Oaks winner and $256k earner Afleet Alexandra, though she starts for a trainer who is low-rated with first-time starters.
Any one of those newcomers could be good enough to be a factor here, but we believe they will have to be both talented and ready to go right out of the box if they are going be able to defeat our top play, Agate. Agate made a highly promising debut on the inner dirt on March 15. She took money that day for a trainer who isn’t well known for winning with first-time starters, but was very unlucky to get away at the back of the field, and then forced to try a wide middle-move on a day when that kind of trip was simply not going to work. March 15 was one of the strongest inside speed-favoring tracks of the entire inner dirt season, and Agate did very well to finish where she did. Based on that solid debut effort, Agate was bet down to 6-5 for her second start, but caught a sloppy track and couldn’t run down a sharp front-running winner. (Touching My Toes earned a solid 85 TimeformUS speed figure for that win.)
We’re expecting the best effort yet from Agate today, and we think that anything around her ML odds of 7/2 is more than fair.
The Play: Win bet on #10 Agate and exactas using her on top of #7 Sister Margaret, # 8 Saythreehailmary’s, and # 9 Pearls for Girls.
