Friday Jan. 31 – Aqueduct Top Play
Scheduled Local Post Time – 3:19 pm ET
The Pace Projector for the seventh race at Aqueduct today—a mile and one-sixteenth on the inner dirt—indicates there will be a fast and contested early pace.
This race seemingly has pace meltdown written all over it, and that will greatly benefit the chances of 6/1 morning line Awake At T Wire, who has very strong credentials no matter the pace complexion.
Excluding 184-day layoff returnee Sovereign Default, who was claimed away from David Jacobson last time out and laid-up, Awake At T Wire owns the best last-out speed figure in this field by a five point margin.
Awake At T Wire is exiting back-to-back races against open $20,000 claimers in which he had to deal with smaller fields and paces ranging from even to slow. Today, this closer gets much more favorable circumstances, and his Late Pace Rating of 83 is clearly the best in this field.
If those aren’t compelling enough reasons to like Awake At T Wire, his trainer Michelle Nevin (a longtime Rick Dutrow Jr. assistant) owns many excellent ratings in relevant categories. Nevin has a 100 Trainer Rating with claimers moving down in class, and a 100 Rating with horses off of similar spacing. Her go-to rider Jose Ortiz also retains the mount, and they have a 100 rating together while posting an impressive 35% win percentage and 74% in-the-money strike rate.
In a race that is overflowing with speed for this distance, and loaded with ouchy-looking droppers, Awake At T Wire has everything pointing in his favor and he certainly offers fantastic value at 6/1.
