Sunday Dec. 22 – Aqueduct Top Play
Scheduled local post time 4:12 pm ET
An exciting betting opportunity awaits in the finale, as #5 Absolute Paradise (10-1 on the morning line) enters this race with both the field’s best Spotlight figure and the field’s best last-out speed figure. In fact, not only did Absolute Paradise run a standout speed figure in her last race, she did it with a troubled trip, and against better competition–as indicated by the Race Ratings.
In her last race, Absolute Paradise had trouble at the quarter pole, when checked sharply and rank, or she would have been second. It was almost 8 lengths back to the fourth-place finisher in that race.
For exotic-wagering purposes: Gold Potion is another horse we’ve been looking forward to. She encountered major trouble in her debut, for very poor debut trainer Bruce Brown. She finished second in a race at this identical class level last time out, but the Race Ratings indicate that it was a weaker race. Expect a much improved performance in career start number three.
The other inclusion, at 10-1 on the morning line, is first-time starter Pegasus Babe. This daughter of Strong Contender debuts for trainer Chris Englehart, a man who has a 100 Trainer Rating with 3-year-old and up Maiden Claimers on dirt. Jockey Cornelio Velasquez has been named to ride.
Betting Strategy: Win bet on Absolute Paradise. Box her in the exacta with Gold Potion and Pegasus Babe.
