On a card that leaves us feeling very cold, the best that we can do is to find our selection in a race that leaves us feeling only somewhat cold. The Peter Eurton-trained filly Pearl de Vere comes into this race having put together three strong speed figures in a row: 83 83 80. She did not get an awful trip in her most recent race, but she did not get an easy trip either. She pressed solid fractions from the outside and gave a reasonable account of herself.

She makes the switch from synthetic to real dirt today, but her previous dirt form falls into line well enough. She has been training well for this race. The TFUS Pace Projector puts her in a battle for the early lead, though we expect her to be rating just off the pace. A longshot who intrigues us is Miss Charming, who is 12-1 on the ML. In her debut, she received the kind of trip you do not want to get in a debut. Moreover, her trainer, Peter Miller, has had considerable success in situations that look rather like this one. Dangerous filly.
