What is the difference between the black, blue and red boxes in “see details?”

    Like

    • TimeformUS says:

If you click on the blue “see details” you’ll see it means that the pace of the race in question is projected to favor horses on the early read. Red boxes are associated with races that are projected to have a hot pace.

Craig….since using the DRF long before you were even a twinkle in Daddys’ eye, this took me some time to adapt. I don’t know how you guys do it, and frankly, don’t give a s**t, I am impressed with the accuracy of Timeform. I started tracking my bets by class and have found a sweetspot where your site and my skills intersect. The results have been astounding. Thank you.

You have various numbers for running style. One example is 86 Tracker 48. Assuming the overall style is 86 and the tracker style is 48, how do you derive at those numbers, how do I use them to my benefit and do I ascertain that, in this case, a horse with a 95 running style is better than the 86?

    Like

    • Hi, thanks for your question. The style is always text, not numeric, and is always in between two numbers. We use the following running styles at TimeformUS:

Leader, Speed, Tracker, Midpace, Closer, Plodder. If we can’t determine one, we us N/A.

The numbers are two different ratings. the one on the left is the early speed rating and is displayed graphically in the TimeformUS Pace Projector. The one on the right is the late speed rating.

      Hope this helps…

Why are so many fractions missing and what does that mean. Just dashes ???? Thanks

    • TimeformUS says:

You’d need to be more specific about where you’re seeing that. Typically fractions are missing when a racetrack doesn’t provide them to anyone, or when we know there has been a malfunction associated with the timing making the fractions unreliable.

It’s still there. You need to be more specific about track and date and we can check if there is a problem. Remember, condensed comes only when there are final files on PPs.

It is important to see how the top three finishers did next time out? Validating what kind of race it really was. Also important to easily tee up a replay a horse’s past race. Any thoughts of providing this two items? This would greatly improve the value of Time Form USA.

Perhaps I have missed it, but to what does a TimeForm speed rating point equate? A length? A fifth of a second? Does it change with the distance of a race like Beyers, e.g. 2.0 points = 1/5 second at a mile, 2.8 points = 1/5 second at 6 furlongs? There is much to like about TimeForm but I’m not sure how much separation there is between horses using TimeForm Speed Ratings, especially when the Speed Ratings are close. I don’t need decimal points, but a general idea would be helpful. Thank you.

Here’s a rough scale of our figures at various distances, these can also be applied to the pace figures too.

Value of one length on TimeformUS Speed Figures (approx)

      1/4 mile, 6 points
      1/2 mile, 3 points
      5 furlongs, 2.4 points
      6 furlongs, 2.0 points
      7 furlongs, 1.7 points
      8 furlongs, 1.5 points
      9 furlongs, 1.4 points
      10 furlongs, 1.3 points
      12 furlongs, 1.1 points

have you ever thought of changing the ratings to style of race, separate them to the distance. i think you might get more accurate of how each horse may be rated. Tougher for you guys but it can be done. looking at a race at SA and noticed that one horse’s rating would lower when he went from a 6F to 5 1/2F but if you notice his rating involving the 2 5 1/2F went up 4 points. made me think

  17. Greetings and thanks for your excellent program. I have had 2 day 7 race ROI of 35% and I believe it is mainly do to the edge given by your speed figures.

However, I question using the Race Ratings next to the past races because they seem to be out of line with racing logic! For instance, in the 6th race at Oaklawn Park on 01/18/1916 you give Abbaa a 106 Rating for a 25K Claimer two races back and only rate the present 70K Allowance race as 104.

I don’t understand how the 25K Claimer can be rated higher than the 70K Allowance and would appreciate your explaining this because if these Race Ratings are accurate then it would be an excellent tool for rating Class from race to race.

    Thanks for your time.

In a msw race, what takes precedence the pedigree figure or the timeform figure? For instance in race 3 at saratoga today, aug 17, torpedo tammy is the selection but her pedigree number is quite a bit lower than others

    • @rtr says:

      Hi Bill,
Essentially what that automated selection is showing is that the horses with experience haven’t run fast, so it’s deferring to a first-time starter with some pedigree and a trainer who has been successful recently with first time starters. But it’s an automated selection, best used for context. Better still is our expert analysis at NYRA.com/TimeformUS

    • One thing you can do – and I don’t speak for the TFUS guys, just making a suggestion as a reader and user of TFUS PPs – is to invoke the PDF of the complete card in another browser tab. The PDF buttons are found above the Pace Projector in the Fast PPs tab. The first one creates a PDF of the entire card, the second produces a PDF of the race you’re looking at and the last one produces a printout of TFUS’s condensed information, for which you’ll have to search their blog to find an explanation. Don’t give up…I’m sure there will be a solution. One of them, if you aren’t using one, is to get a MacBook! As for the browser, Safari or Chrome work for me. What browser, operating system and type of computer are you using?

We should really remove mention of the Deluxe tab from our blog, as we’ve merged deluxe and fast simply into one tab. We decided to have two separate levels was needlessly complicated and we’re just offering it all-in-one. Good luck at SA!

While the approach of Timeform US is certainly innovative, the one aspect that could be imrpoved is the addition of an odds line. While adding live odds is helpful, it does not replace an accurate betting line that allows the player to see where the value is. Many people think an overlay is just about the morning line. True value of a wager is getting higher odds than a horse should be in relation to its chances of winning. While other web sites offer this feature, I am hopeful that you will be including it in the future. Keep up the good work.

Product is first-class. My problem in relation to DRF and Equibase vs. TimeformUS is the amount of information you can view on the screen. With the DRF and Equibase you can view more information without scrolling and you can print out the pages…this makes contener-comparison easier to handicap and make notes.

      Hi,

Long story short: We do offer printable PPs (see the printer icon at the top of each race PPs) and we will soon offer a single print-out for the full card.
Also: We’re offering a lot more detail and texture than many other providers. So you can view “more” information without scrolling, but that information is much less detailed than ours, usually.
Finally: We will, by Spring, offer more condensed formats as well.
